Random and Whacky

Random and Whacky is a sketch comedy show for teens. Random and Whacky is not only the name of the show, but also the name of the top-secret agency that solves the problems faced by real life kids. In their high-tech bunker, with digital screens receiving feeds from around the world, Random and Whacky provide advice you would never hear from a parent, teacher or responsible adult. Their solutions may not work, but they are always hilarious. First screened on channel 10 Peach (previously Channel 11), in Australia.

The design brief was to create a fun but ‘slick’ top-secret agency look, that on further inspection was just a little bit weird and whacky. Along with the set designer, we developed a colour palette that worked well both onset and in the broader branding and opening titles of the show. Part of the set design was a high-tech wall of digital screens, which were transmitting information into the secret bunker, from around the globe. The screens were to look professional and techy while having odd little quirks and features, like tracking goblins, upside down maps and security footage showing silly things happening in the hallways.
